“Gandhian Values and their Relevance”
With the recent flop show by Anna and his team
against corruption using Gandhian intellects and ideologies, it seems as if
these values have completely lost their significance in the modern era. The
consistent efforts put by them in order to curb the menace haven’t got much
attention, both by the Government as well as the media. But in my viewpoint,
Gandhian principles are evergreen in their character and nothing big or small
can ever debase their essence. There aren’t any flaws in the Gandhian ideals,
and irrespective of any scrutiny, their domain will always lie away from any
annotations of the critics. What really matters is the right kind of execution
of these deeply ingrained values and spirited fundamentals to bring out a
fruitful result. In a country with about 1.2 billion people, it might appear
that running political electoral or governance through ‘Gandhigiri’ is nothing
more than a pseudo concept and these so called principles are only meant to be
portrayed in the Bollywood films by ‘Munna bhai’ and has nothing to deal with
practicality of the real world, but it should not be forgotten that the pillars
of our freedom struggle were laid on these tenets and undoubtedly the
independence that we enjoy today is a testimonial of its potential to bring any
colossal change. As a budding technical graduate, pragmatism in
occupation is a priority for me. In the current scenario, where even in a
minuscule issue aggressive confrontations get precedence over ethical values, I
oftentimes ponder upon the query, as to how these ideologies have, and can
bring about a volte face in the multifaceted realms of human life. Do these set
of principles really possess the power to change and challenge the world? Do
they bring active transformations in an individual or not? My mind gets endowed
with a multitude set of apprehensions regarding these fundamental morals. How
can a war be fought without arms and ammunitions, and still emerge triumphant
in one’s undertaking. Surely, this distinctly signifies the latent strength of
‘Gandhigiri’ and it’s never disintegrating fundamentals.
They possess the power
to create leader whose intellect is morally entrenched and who possesses the
true spirit of credibility. Patience is what it demands the most. Anna Hazare
and his team took the path having its foundations based on Gandhian principles
but lost the track due of dearth of patience in them. Endurance stands as the
most vital ingredient for any battle being fought through non-violence (ahimsa)
and truth. Gandhiji’s intellectual argumentations hold their basis in his
strong ethical values and perceptions. These ideologies can transform an
individual into something substantial wherein he imbibes the virtues of
leadership. According to me, the Gandhian values can mould an individual to carve
a niche for him-self through the most righteous path, where truth, simplicity,
trustworthiness, patience and non-violence are the prime elements.
